The Trust is looking to recruit to a Specialist Grade in Geriatric Medicine based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

This post is aimed at existing doctors who have more than 12 years clinical experience, with at least 6 years at middle grade level or above in geriatric medicine.

The post holder will be a core member of a team of 8 substantive geriatricians. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience and support a dynamic forward-thinking department.

The post has been created to develop and consolidate new ways of working.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work in wide variety of clinical areas (acute frailty, complex care wards, community interface).

We are working with the community partners to develop virtual wards which will be an exciting new opportunity


At the Queen Elizabeth site, we run an acute frailty unit for patients meeting the frailty criteria to be reviewed by specialist teams within the multidisciplinary team.


There is a daily falls and frailty clinic which provides comprehensive geriatrics assessments to the patients referred by the primary care and community teams.

The geriatricians provide 8-8 telephone support to primary care

The trust can support any sub-specialty interest within geriatrics (e.g. acute frailty, community interface, orthogeriatric, osteoporosis, tilt table clinics, movement disorder clinics)

The post holder will be offered a mentor from within the trust. This may be from within the department or another speciality.

  • To provide high quality health care for older patients undergoing elective and emergency surgery within the Trust.
  • To respond to inpatient and outpatient referrals from other specialties
  • To provide prompt advice for General Practitioners
  • To participate in educational and audit meetings
  • To meet CPD and revalidation requirements1
  • To provide cover for colleagues during periods of leave
  • To support the Hospital's Clinical Governance Strategy
  • To contribute to all other aspects of the Directorate and trust affairs


Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was established in October 2013, following the integration of Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.


The Trust provides a comprehensive portfolio of high quality acute healthcare services to a critical mass of more than c.526,000 people living across the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and North Bexley together with a broad portfolio of community services, primarily, but not exclusively, for those living in Lewisham.


We are responsible for NHS services at University Hospital Lewisham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich and in a number of community settings throughout Lewisham.

In addition, the trust provides some services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.

  • To support the development ongoing development ofa comprehensive geriatric medicine service
  • Support and further develop the geriatric service within
the Trust

  • Participate in the frailty oncall Rota at QEH
  • Be an advocate for the care of older people within the
organization.

  • Lead, support and mentor junior medical staff within
the department and ensure training requirements are
met.
