Description
This is an apprenticeship post, therefore 20% off the job training is funded by the organisation for the 18 months of the apprenticeship, after which you will be a fully qualified Medical Secretary.
As an apprentice you will be working towards achieving the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work within the scope of this Job Description.
To be responsible for providing secretarial and administrative support to the Consultants, Specialist Registrars and Trainees and Multi-disciplinary Teams (MDTs), thereby contributing to providing an efficient and comprehensive secretarial service, ensuring the effective day to day running of the department.
To offer secretarial support to the admin team when other staff members are away.
Patient/Client Care:
contact with patients in person, in writing and by telephone, providing non-clinical information to patients.
Responsibility for Information Resources:
use of hospital patient information systems for patient letter generation. Use of results reporting systems to look up laboratory results.
Financial and Physical Resources:
use of own computer terminal and printer.
Human Resources:
Liaising directly with Consultants, junior medical staff, nursing teams and other multi-disciplinary professionals. To provide support for Band 2 admin staff supporting secretarial roles during absences.
Analytic and Judgement Skills:
have daily tasks to perform and arrange. Work around these to meet any deadlines.
Physical Skills:
intermediate word processing skills
