Position:
Learning Support Assistant


Job Purpose:

The primary role of the Learning Support Assistant is to work closely with class teachers in the classroom setting to enhance the learning and achievement of pupils, particularly those with special educational needs in primary or secondary education.

The role focuses on promoting pupils' independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion, providing necessary support to enable students to access the curriculum, participate in learning, and experience a sense of accomplishment.



Salary:
The position offers a competitive salary in the range of £400-£500 per week.


Responsibilities:


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Possess a Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, or a relevant qualification. Willingness to work towards a qualification if not already held.
  • Desirable: Experience of working with children with special educational needs.
Teaching and Learning

  • Demonstrate an informed and effective approach to teaching and learning, employing appropriate strategies to support the teacher's work and enhance the achievement of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Foster inclusion by encouraging the participation of all pupils in both learning and extracurricular activities.
  • Provide support and, when appropriate, lead interventions to address specific learning needs.
  • Implement consistent and effective behavior management strategies in alignment with the school's policy.
  • Assist class teachers in maintaining a positive learning environment and managing pupil behavior.
Planning

  • Contribute to effective assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording, and reporting of pupil performance and progress.
  • Familiarize themselves with lesson plans ahead of time, if available, to be better prepared to support classroom activities.
  • Prepare the classroom for lessons to create a conducive learning environment.
Working with Colleagues and Other Professionals

  • Communicate effectively with fellow staff members, students, parents, and caregivers under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Share knowledge and understanding of pupils with other school staff and relevant professionals, facilitating informed decisionmaking on intervention and support.
  • Keep other professionals accurately informed of the performance and progress of pupils they are working with, in collaboration with the class teacher.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships with classroom teachers, colleagues, and specialists.
Whole-School Organisation, Strategy, and Development

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of school policies, practices, and procedures, aligning with the school's values and vision.
  • Actively participate in the broader school community to make a positive impact on its ethos and activities.
  • Attend relevant CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and training sessions to stay updated and incorporate new ideas into their practice.
Health and Safety

  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, adhering to the requirements of "Keeping Children Safe in Education" and the school's child protection policy.
  • Provide care for children who may be upset or have had accidents.
Personal and Professional Conduct

  • Uphold public trust in the education profession, maintaining high standards of ethics and behavior within and outside the school.
  • Demonstrate a proper and professional regard for the school's values, policies, and practices, exhibiting punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Cultivate positive attitudes, values, and behaviors to foster effective relationships within the school community.
  • Respect and celebrate individual differences and cultural diversity.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and adults.
  • Expertise in understanding the needs of all pupils and adapting support accordingly.
  • Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.

  • Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding to build positive relationships with pupils.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
