Our Environment Business provides 'source to sea' asset delivery capability across the UK and Scotland working on both Frameworks and Standalone projects.

Since AMP3 we have delivered more than £2bn assets for clients such as Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Thames Water, Southern Water, Welsh Water and Scottish Water.

Purpose of the Role:


Key Accountabilities:


  • Foster and support an inclusive, open, transparent, and collaborative environment to develop our HS&E culture, maturity, and behaviours to deliver HS&E excellence.
  • Support the business in the roll out Net Zero Carbon Strategy for Construction Carbon and the wider GT Group and Business Unit supporting environmental strategies (Protect, Enhance and Legacy).
  • Proactively drive and promote our behavioural programme; 'Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviours', through site visits and strategic planning meetings.
  • Undertakes and manages assurance audits through our cloudbased system (Active SHEQ) from start to finish including the planning, undertaking and resolution of actions from Site Safety and Environmental Reviews.
  • Understands the environmental risk profile of the framework including the development of monthly risk reviews to identify environmental risks, trends, themes, and learnings.
  • Provides environmental support and advice throughout the project lifecycle to our design and construction teams including design, process risk reviews, prestart meetings, initial site start up, high risk
  • Risk Assessment and Method Statement Reviews.
  • Undertake incident Investigations, write initial learnings slide and support the incident response process from start to finish including creating learnings and communications to the business. Manage and track to closure Corrective Action Plans required for projects following an incident.
  • Engage and influence internal and external key stakeholders, including client, supply chain partners, regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and colleagues, through the plan, prepare and delivery of project lifecycle.
  • Develop and lead on environmental training and inductions supporting framework functions and wider GT group business as required including roll out of core competency courses.
  • Prepare and take a lead communication role in trending risk, learning outcomes from incidents, best practice, and innovations for discussion at internal and external forums and weekly HSE Calls.
  • Work collaboratively with the client to ensure good relationships, understand client and contractual requirements and develop positive working practices. Take the lead supporting client's environmental team and in the delivery of client environmental KPIs.
  • Collaborate with Low Carbon Managers and Advisor and Regional Environmental Manager to promote the GT Net Zero Approach and Strategy with the framework and wider business.
  • Actively participate in GT Group and Client environmental and carbon forums, communicate and feedback information pertinent to framework and group activities and requirements.
Competency Requirements
Aware of individual HS&E responsibilities and adheres to company HS&E policy and procedures.

  • Good working knowledge of implementing environmental excellence and maintaining high standards.
  • Understands the Net Zero Carbon Processes including Scope Carbon and Technical Standards
  • Understands the project lifecycle, design, construction, commissioning, and acceptance
  • Self-Starter, motivated and commercially aware.
  • Excellent communicator, written and verbal; ability to engage effectively through all facets and disciplines within and outwith the organisation; from Grassroots to Directorlevel.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organisation
  • Thrives in complex, dynamic, working environments and relationships.
  • Ideally experienced in working a similar environmental function in either infrastructure, water, or similar regulated markets.
  • Experienced in delivering HS&E performance in project lifecycle environment.
  • Works with collaboratively to achieve results
  • Knowledge of data analytics and reporting systems.
  • Proven at delivering results and meeting HS&E, financial and operational KPIs.
  • Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages
