Overview:

Buckinghamshire Council are recruiting for a Highways Inspector to work within the Highways Maintenance Service.

This is an important role within the newly formed Buckinghamshire Highways Alliance and the post holder will play a key part in driving forward excellence within the inspections department whilst promoting the Council's vision and core values in delivering high standards of service for our residents and visitors to Buckinghamshire.


Reporting to the Senior Inspector and Inspections Manager, the post holder will undertake scheduled network safety inspections identifying and recording highway defects for repair whilst closely liaising with Local Area Technician colleagues also ensuring the timely attendance to customer enquiries (CRN's) received for routine defects via the online Fix My Street reporting app.

Our team of dedicated inspectors and technicians ensure the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of 3700 km of carriageway and 2400 km of footways including structural assets and we are further expanding our safety inspection team under the new Buckinghamshire Highways Alliance structure.

About the role:


This is an exciting role working with a local-based team of Highways professionals as part of a team of 12 county inspectors based at one of our three depot areas.


The role will require the Highways Inspector take ownership of a designated area and ensure safety inspections are delivered in a timely manner and in accordance with the Highways Safety Inspection Policy.

This will include self-managing time and workloads with a level of fitness to be able to perform walked and driven highway inspections working alone and alongside others.


A good understanding of sections 41 and 58 of the Highways Act is essential in carrying out our statutory obligations and the post holder will also be familiar with associated legislation including the Health and Safety at work Act 1974.


On-the-go:

- _Our 'on-the-go' roles mean you'll usually start and finish your day from a base, moving around between different locations throughout the day. You won't need a fixed desk to work from, but you'll have access to our network where you can keep up to date with admin and the latest staff updates.


About you:


We are looking to appoint a highly versatile person who is readily able to organise and forward plan workloads and consistently deliver the area inspection schedule.

You will also have experience of working as part of a two person team and oversee an assistant inspector as necessary.


You will be an excellent communicator and possess the relevant IT skills for updating system databases and be familiar with operating mobile capture devices.

You will also have an ability to demonstrate initiative with problem solving and be able to carry out inspections with mínimal supervision.


Skills & Experience:


You will ideally have a highways maintenance background and understanding of the key principals of highways inspection polices, their implementation and service requirements.


You will be able to demonstrate your excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships and engage successfully and sensitively when meeting the public and local stakeholders.


Other information:

The successful Highways Inspector will be depot based in Aylesbury, Amersham or High Wycombe.
