We are delighted to offer the opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our Clinical Biochemistry Team.

The successful applicant will work in collaboration with our strong clinical, scientific, laboratory and quality teams to actively support the Clinical lead in further developing the clinical biochemistry service and in the provision of training to more junior clinical scientists as part of our succession planning.


With the merger of two Hospital Trusts in 2018 (Ipswich and Colchester) into the single East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), we are working towards further harmonisation of our clinical service model and team working across sites.

You will be part of a team of 2 Consultant Biochemists (including this post), one Consultant Chemical Pathologist, 2 Principal grades and one Senior Biochemist (HSST - enrolled) together with 2 STP trainees.

Laboratory services are provided on each of the 2 hospital sites with the hub laboratory based at Ipswich.

Each of the laboratories offer fully automated lab equipped with Roche Cobas 8000 analysers for routine chemistry & immunoassays and UV spectrophotometers for CSF xanthochromia analysis.

The hub laboratory is further equipped with Diasorin analyser, Helena analysers for capillary protein electrophoresis & immunotyping and offers an FTIR renal stone analysis service within the wider pathology network.

The hub laboratory services have achieved UKAS accreditation and both sites are accredited training departments with the National School of Healthcare Science for the STP and HSST programmes, and with the IBMS for training of Biomedical Scientists.


This role is essential to help lead, deliver and develop our busy and expanding services for the benefit of patients and is key to our succession planning over the next five years.
