Description

The Pharmacy Support Services Supervisor has responsibility for the provision and management of stock medicinal products to all wards and departments throughout the trust.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with the pharmacy distribution team to ensure that all stock medicinal products are available, held in a safe and suitable environment and fit for purpose when issued.


The post holder is responsible for the daily supervision of all staff working in the pharmacy distribution team and will be expected to liase with pharmacy purchasing and distribution storekeepers regarding outstanding orders and any/all stock supply issues.

The post holder will also provide the necessary oversight of mentoring/training the ATO's within the department.


The post holder will be responsible for the daily review and release of all orders for stock medicinal products, fluids and feeds and will ensure that, within reasonable limits all stock held within pharmacy distribution is ordered in a cost effective and timely manner.

The post holder will need to work closely with nursing and ward pharmacy teams, dispensary staff, pharmacy technical services, quality control teams and provide supervision of pharmacy porters.


  • Understand and comply with MHRA requirements for the purchase, receipt, storage and issue of stock medicinal products, fluids and feeds.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to the ATO'S/SATO's regarding their daytoday duties, responsibilities, and training to ensure the safe, timely and costeffective provision of all stock medicinal products, fluids and feeds throughout the trust.
  • To supervise and mentor the pharmacy porters, ensuring the safe and timely transfer of all stock medicinal products, fluids and feeds throughout the trust.
  • Oversee operation of the unit and ordering such supplies as are necessary.
  • To supervise the implementation of service innovations and developments.
  • Identify shortfalls or surpluses in supply and modify or generate orders accordingly in consideration of daily demands.
  • Liase with the surrounding pharmacy teams to ensure the safe, timely and costeffective supply of medicinal products, fluids and feeds.
  • Follow up on outstanding orders/ to follows in a timely manner and report back to relevant teams when issues arise.
  • Supervise the carrying out of daily stock checks within pharmacy distribution, review data generated and if needed, investigate, and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Ensure pharmacy distribution is always kept in a neat and tidy ordered condition.
  • Ensure regular reviews of all stock held are undertaken and carried out alongside planned checks of expiry dates within the department.
