There's a lot happening at Derby Museums and we need new people to keep it happening and to drive it forward We're looking for great communicators, creative makers, people interested in history, science, technology, engineering and the arts, who have a passion for teaching, learning and sharing their skills.


The Role

Derby Museums offers a full, varied programme of events, activities and workshops across our three sites that make up the Trust.

Drawing inspiration from our outstanding permanent collections, including Rolls-Royce engines, archaeology, history of the railways, natural history, industrial history, military history, world cultures and the Joseph Wright collection of international significance, as well as a regular programme of temporary exhibitions, there are plenty of creative opportunities to inspire and engage learners.


With an expanding programme of activities primary, secondary, FE and HE for audiences we are growing our team of Formal Learning Facilitators who support the development and delivery of outstanding learning activities, with an emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM), co-producing and facilitating learning experiences which engage the head, heart and hands.

Formal Learning Facilitators will work across our three sites, as well as in schools and communities.


We are looking for people who are excited by the possibilities of collaborating with others and taking a STEAM based approach to learning.

You will draw on your own specialisms and practice and work with museum staff, fellow facilitators and audiences to create and deliver meaningful learning experiences inspired by the amazing objects in our vast collection.

If you have experience and specialist knowledge of working with primary and secondary schools, young people 16+ and have an interest in/ experience of science and industry, technology, engineering, the arts, history - (especially relating to Derby) / fine art/ drama/ design/ making / craft/ computer programming/ then we are keen to hear from you


Learning Facilitators will be employed by Derby Museums on a Freelance basis with the rate of pay of £15 per hour and will be required to undertake a DBS check.

The role is flexible and can fit in with other part time work or commitments.

  • There may also be the opportunity to work with informal learning audiences, including families and adults.
