    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic clinical, counselling or forensic psychologist with a desire to work with adults needing support through a period of crisis or who are struggling with acute mental health difficulties. You will be innovative and creative, thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to draw on a wide range of evidence-based psychological models and approaches to inform treatment planning.

    We are a friendly and supportive team of Clinical Psychologists, Creative Therapists and Assistant Psychologists, committed to providing trauma informed care. We deliver specialist psychological assessment & brief interventions individually & through group programmes. We have embedded the innovative model CCC in providing psychological therapies within acute care, alongside evidence based models. We strive to continuously evaluate our practice to maintain our learning and development.

    Our service comprises of female and male acute wards, an MOD ward, a PICU and 2 CRHT teams across North & Mid Hants. We work closely with the leadership team & are fortunate to be part of a psychologically minded MDT who want to create a compassionate and resilient culture to support the recovery of adults with severe & acute mental health difficulties.

    The post is a Band 8a - we would also welcome applications at Band 7 for those practitioners who consider they may benefit from a Band 7 to 8a preceptorship and those who are not yet qualified, but close to completing their training.

    Main duties of the job

    As member of the multi-professional team, the post holder will be required to work as an autonomous, independent practitioner responsible for their own work and interventions and for the interpretation of agreed guidelines and policies in providing a highly specialist Psychological service to individuals referred across acute wards. This may include working with families/ carers or other identified person where appropriate. Individuals will primarily present with complex psychological problems that would benefit from the services of acute and crisis care pathway.

    They will undertake complex assessments, offer consultancy and provide expert advice to acute and crisis colleagues, and the wider clinical multi-professional team, other agencies and non-professional carers and provide specialist treatment for complex cases. This will require them to plan and prioritise their own clinical workload.

    The post holder will provide specialist supervision for trainee psychologists and qualified and prequalification psychological therapy staff and provide psychological guidance and supervision for multi-professional clinical colleagues. They will engage in research and development, cultivate and encourage a research ethos within the wider clinical team. They will utilise research skills to contribute to policy or service development as necessary.

    • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
