PURPOSE OF ROLE
To undertake preparation of personal tax returns for non-domiciles, HNWI and trusts. Ensuring a quality service is delivered to all clients across the private client tax team and other wider services.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Request information from the client or audit team
  • Work through the information and assess the tax impact of each piece of information
  • Prepare and generate tax returns using tax software
  • Send chasing letters to client if required, address any queries
  • Prepare letter to client, detailing liabilities and any tax saving opportunities
  • Draft letter for review and make any necessary changes (where appropriate)
  • Send letter and tax return to client for signature; log information sent and submit to HMRC
  • Liaise with HMRC on clients behalf
  • Inform client of tax liabilities; agree these to HMRC statement on account
  • Prepare HMRC forms as appropriate (e.g. P35, P11D etc) and ensure all deadlines are met
  • Prepare client bill (where appropriate)
  • Coach junior staff on work delegated
  • Identify tax planning opportunities as appropriate
  • Assist on consultancy projects (where required)
  • Carry out research projects (where appropriate)

Other responsibilities

  • Regularly update your knowledge via Tax section on the Intranet
  • Positive involvement with tax advisory work relevant to your skill level
  • Clients regarding information required, liabilities, deadlines to be met, returns to be signed, tax opportunities
  • Tax Partner, Tax Director, Tax Senior Manager/Manager, Tax AM/Supervisor, Tax Executive, Tax Semi-Senior/Junior (where appropriate)
  • Audit team regarding information on tax computations
  • Other tax team members to gain technical support
  • HMRC and any other external agencies
  • Secretaries admin support

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • At least three years + experience in an accounting practice within a personal tax team.
  • ATT Qualified or undertaking CTA qualification.
  • Experience with demonstrable knowledge of producing personal tax returns.
  • Strong IT skills including Word, Outlook and Excel, to an intermediate level, to produce letters and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of tax software such as CCH
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Organised and methodical.
