18-20 yrs £7.28 per hour

21-22 yrs £9.78 per hour

23 plus £9.90 per hour

Do you have a passion for swimming and/or sports and would like the opportunity to have career within leisure but have little or no work experience? If 'yes', then an apprenticeship route may be the best for you
This is an exciting job role working in one of our busy leisure facilities. No two days are the same and you will often be the first point of contact for our customers.


Main responsibilities:


  • Supervise members of the public in the swimming pool and all leisure areas. Respond in accordance with Pool Standard Operating Procedures and within the guidelines of statutory training. You will attend statutory training on a monthly basis.
  • Assist the Duty Manager in supervision including training of leisure staff and work experience colleagues.
  • Ensure the building's security, opening/locking up all public areas as per the facility programme.
  • Control, assist and ensure the safety of customers using the facilities.
  • Act as lifeguard and make use of lifesaving skills to rescue bathers in difficulty, in accordance with swimming pool procedures. Administer first aid as required.
  • Provide a high level of customer care at all times, answering queries, directing our customers and responding to complaints.
  • Control the behaviour of centre users in accordance with centre instructions.
  • Set up and take down sports equipment as required for various events and sports activities in different parts of the centre.
  • Move furniture and equipment in and out of stores and about the building as required.
  • Undertake cleaning duties including cleaning the pool bottom, pool surrounds, footbaths, etc.
  • Check shower and toilet areas for serviceability, damage or evidence of misuse and take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Assist in the evacuation of the building by carrying out specific procedures in the event of fire, bomb alerts or other emergencies.
  • Ensure company policies relating to National Operating procedures and Emergency Action Protocols are adhered to.
  • Carry out any other duties required by the Duty Manager, within the scope of the post.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will receive a NPLQ, Gym Instructor and Swim Teacher qualifications. On successful completion you will receive a CPD - example PT Instructor/Fitness qualification.
