The vacancy:


The Sterile Services Production Supervisor will support the Sterile Services Managers in the day to day running of the Department, taking responsibility for the day to day supervision of staff in the Sterile Services department ensuring the smooth operation and delivery of service within the Trust.


The person:


Applicants must have a good standard of general education, excellent written and verbal communication skills and should have an adaptable, flexible approach to work very well within a team as well as being able to use their own initiative.


They must have an excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, as the role will require using Microsoft office, surgical instrument tracking and IT systems.

It is essential to have experience of working within a Sterile Services Department as a Supervisor.


The successful applicants will provide a customer focused service to staff, managers, suppliers, colleagues and visitors, so a good standard of spoken English, communication and customer care skills are essential.

Job Summary

  • To support the department Managers in the provision of a quality decontamination
  • To assist the Managers in the day to day running of the Department, taking responsibility for the day to day supervision of staff in the Sterile Services department ensuring the smooth operation and delivery of service within the
  • Responsible for production management of the service and supervision of the department's technicians. To participate in and supervise the production flow of the department. To draw the attention of the Manager to any problems as they arise. To assist in the training of new staff and the continued training and development of existing staff.

Without the safe reprocessing of re-usable sterile instruments and equipment patients would not be able to have their operations and outpatient procedures.

We are accredited to the Medical Devices Directive, ISO13485 and constantly seek to maintain and improve our quality standards.


Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is a community focused provider of local and acute care, providing high quality services to over one million people living across the London boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley.

With a turnover of around £700 million, we provide services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, University Hospital Lewisham and a range of community settings in Lewisham.

Key Result Areas & Performance:


To communicate with other supervisors, staff, theatres, managers, infection control, engineers and representatives as appropriate, handle sensitive staff matters maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Deal with conflict in a positive professional manner responding politely and courteously at all times.


To actively participate in the production process working without supervision and supervise other staff in the overall production process, ensuring quality standards are attained and procedures are adhered to.


Be able to identify pieces of equipment, their speciality and the customer they belong to, expressing specialist knowledge in decontamination aspects.


To allocate staff ensuring that all areas are covered, implementing a weekly rota system and re-organising the working practices when necessary to meet the service demands.

To assist in the induction and training of new staff, and the continued training and development of existing staff. Motivate staff identifying opportunities for development and assist management with Personal Development Plans and staff appraisals.

To regularly visit and inspect all areas of responsibility, as outlined by the Manager.

To monitor time keeping of the staff at the start and end of each shift. To roster tea and lunch
