Youth Worker - Leicester - up to £24,000
Full time - Permanent - Term Time Only - working 41 weeks per annum.


If you are a Youth Worker, or perhaps have some experience with young people, such as a sports coach, activity leader etc., and would like to move into a teaching role, this could be for you.


Your students would all be young people with barriers to learning or who may be disengaged with main stream education.

You would be working for a training provider who have 10 years' success in providing young people with practical skills such as carpentry, decorating, plumbing, bricklaying etc.

The intention being that with basic skills at their disposal the young person is more likely to be able secure full time employment within construction trades.


You'd be working with a training provider who have many years experience in working with school children and giving them basic skills in construction which has proved highly effective in assisting them secure their first job within construction.

Many young people go down the construction apprenticeship route.


Your ability to work with an engage young people is more important than basic construction skills as this can be taught, providing you have a practical aptitude.


You would be working with a class room of no more than seven young people and giving practical demonstrations on various aspects of low level construction skills - bricklaying, carpentry, painting and decorating.

The training centre is based in Leicester and is NOT based within a school setting.

90% of the training is practical as the company have found that this is the way most young people learn best.

The working day is 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Classes begin at 9.30 a.m. and finish at 3.00 p.m. so there is plenty time for writing up notes and any administration.

You would be mentored and supported in your journey to becoming a fully fledged tutor. This training provider have an exceptional track record in training the next generation of tutors.

Essential Skills for this role:


  • Previous experience working with and supporting young people. This experience is vital. Perhaps you've been a Youth Worker, Support Worker, Teaching Assistant, Sports Coach, helped with Cubs or Beaver groups.
  • DIY or basic skills in woodwork or painting and decorating or bricklaying or plumbing etc. Perhaps you already do small DIY skills at home. You will receive training but you must have some sort of practical aptitute.
  • A good communicator who can give clear concise verbal instructions.
