SHIFT OPERATIVE

Tennants Bitumen, a long-established company, with almost 100 years of operational expertise in the import and distribution of bituminous binders for the Northern Ireland road construction and maintenance industry are recruiting for a
Shift Operative for their plant at Airport Road West.


As a Shift Operative you will perform a wide range of duties at our busy plant site to ensure bitumen deliveries are sent out in a timely manner whilst maintaining both a safe and productive environment.

The role is multi disciplined, and you will be required to learn all aspects of the site from weighbridge duties, through to the safe operation of mobile plant and bitumen production.


Duties will include:


  • Assisting in the daily operation of the terminal
  • To load & discharge road vehicles as required
  • To monitor and be responsible for blending and production processes as required
  • To monitor and be responsible for boiler operations
  • Routine plant maintenance
  • Availability for Cargo deliveries and Boiler callouts (on a rota basis), which may occur outside normal working hours including evenings and weekends.
This role will develop into being part of a team responsible for the production of Emulsion in our Mill. Full training will be provided.


Essential Criteria:


  • Self-motivation and excellent timekeeping and attendance is a must, as you will be working in a very busy yard responsible for plant operations as part of a small team.
  • All round mechanical engineering experience of changing and inspecting bearings, rollers, drums, valves and gates.
  • Ability to use all hand tools associated with the industry.
  • Due to the nature of the work, you must be able to carry out manual handling duties including moving large flexes and working with power tools. You will also be required to climb ladders and platforms up to maximum height of 17 metres.
  • You will have a sound appreciation of Health & Safety, housekeeping and environmental regulations.
  • Pipe fitting / maintenance experience.

Desirable Criteria:


  • Experience in tank farm or storage facility.
  • Knowledge of Bitumen plant maintenance and processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of pneumatics systems.
  • Ability to be able to MMA weld in an onsite environment.
  • Counterbalance forklift truck licence
  • LGV Class 1 licence.
  • MEWP trained.

Hours of Work:


The operation runs a 2-weekly rolling shift pattern between the hours of 6am and 6pm, and you will be required as part of this shift pattern to work alternate Saturday mornings from 6am to 12 Noon.


You are required to be fully flexible with regard to working hours and weekend working due to the nature of the work involved.
