CONSERVATION & HORTICULTURAL NURSERY WORKER


Cumbria Wildflowers is a busy wholesale plant nursery growing and selling UK native wildflowers and also working on various conservation restoration projects.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person to join our existing nursery team to work within the wildflower nursery and undertaking specialist conservation and habitat restoration projects.


Job Specification:
Assist the Nursery Manager in carrying out a range of duties including but not exclusive to:

Conservation and Habitat restoration work including;
The use of Tractors, Mowers, Quad bikes, Strimmers, Seed sowing equipment, Spraying equipment and other machinery to complete conservation / habitat restoration projects

Assisting with fencing, path recreation, boardwalks, and other tasks on Conservation and Habitat projects

Sowing & planting on Habitat Recreation and Creation Projects

Work on seed harvesting projects using brush harvesters

Cleaning and preparing harvested seed


Nursery work including;
Seed sowing

Vegetative Propagation

Pricking out seedlings

Potting on & planting

Watering & fertilising plants with good attention to detail

Compost mixing

Weeding pots, plant tidy and pruning

Nursery maintenance and other duties

Managing and preparing orders for dispatch

The role will command a range of on-the job and external training to meet the requirements of our clients. Training in Health & safety will form part of the job role.


Person Specification:


Qualifications (Desirable)
PA1 and PA6 spraying certification

Quad Bike certification

Trailer licence

Brush Cutters and Strimmer's certification

Horticultural Qualification


Skills (Essential)
Full Driving Licence (UK or EU equivalent) and driving in the UK.

Good communicating / interpersonal skills

Good team worker though can work alone if required


Physically fit as lifting and carrying are part of the role and the habitat work can be very physically demanding.

Hours: 40 Hours per week


Working Day:
Start time 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday with a Saturday rota once every 4-5 weeks. Occasional overtime to complete specific tasks this will normally be paid as time in lieu.

Overtime:
Available for some projects, most extra time taken as Time off in Lieu

Place of work:
Split between the nursery and project site locations

Relocation Offer:
Cumbria Wildflowers may in some circumstances offer assistance with relocation costs

Training:
Training will form part of the annual work programme

Permanent, Full-time


Salary:
From £23,816.00 per year
