Specialist Study Skills Tutor - (Autism) - Face to Face & Remote - Durham_

Cosmic People are a DSA registered provider of NMH support to students with disabilities in Higher Education.


We currently have a vacancy for a study skills specialist supporting students with autism on a one to one basis with their studies in higher education at the
University of Durham in accordance with their DSA Needs Assessment Report, course requirements and learning preferences.


You will be required to provide face to face support on campus at University of Durham plus be able to provide remote support for students.

As a specialist tutor you will provide one to one study skills and strategy support to students studying in higher education on the autism spectrum and will facilitate students through the development of strategies and guidance to enable them to overcome barriers to learning and become independent learners.


You will set clear standards and expectations for your sessions and the nature of the help you provide will be in line with the student course requirements and learning preferences and will include: time management, organisation, oral communication skills, planning, preparation, social awareness, amongst others.


Cosmic People will offer you the support to succeed in the role with a team of dedicated Account Managers on hand to answer any questions you have.

As a family run company we are a friendly, approachable team with an ethos of putting the student at the heart of everything we do but also supporting our staff in any way we can.


Our offices are open Monday to Friday from 8.45am until 5.30pm and we provide a 24 hour out of office mobile for safeguarding and emergencies.

We are a nationwide provider of DSA support and have also built up an excellent rapport with lots of Universities throughout the UK and many of those now come to us in order for us to support direct funded students.


  • A relevant degree (PG Cert Autism) or Any Degree and a teaching qualification.
- (One of the teaching qualifications specified: Cert Ed, DELTA L7, DTTLS, PGCE, AFHEA, PGCHE, PGCAP, QTS etc)


- A willingness to invest in NAS training for the role as required

  • Experience supporting adults with autism.
  • Have an understanding of academic standards and requirements of H.E.
  • Have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills.
  • A good knowledge of the English language.
  • Be able to work flexibly to support student's needs.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and respect confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • Adhere to academic codes of practice.
  • Be capable and confident and able to work on your own initiative.
  • Have problem solving skills, empathy, diplomacy and sensitivity.
  • Be willing to embark on relevant CPD.

Payrate:
£25 - £30 per hour
