Description

Due the extension of the Department for Education Post 16 Pupil Premium Plus funding for young people in care (2023/2024), a full time (37 hours per week) fixed term role for a Post 16 Education Support Officer (ESO) has arisen within the Derbyshire Virtual School Team.


This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in supporting the education of children in care and care leavers on a fixed term contract until 1st October 2024.

You will join an established Post 16 team within Derbyshire Virtual School.

Through rigorous planning in partnership with designated tutors in FE and Training settings, social workers, leaving care workers, carers, this role is central to ensure that young people's educational and transition plans are robust and aspirational, enabling them to achieve their full potential.


Derbyshire Virtual School team work flexibly, and the successful applicant will have regular access to training through Virtual School team development meetings and other wider opportunities within DCC.


You will need to have excellent knowledge of working with children in care and care leavers, understand the potential barriers to education, have experience of being involved in education planning (e.g., attending the young people's personal education plan (PEP) meetings), support young people with their education and be able to confidently communicate with designated tutors within FE and training providers.

Being able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team is also essential.
