To communicate the testing procedure, putting all involved at ease.

Ensure patients are treated safely and courteously, causing the minimum of distress or discomfort throughout the blood sampling procedure To communicate with patients, parents, carers and children and a caring manner Dispatch of correct quality samples to the laboratory within agreed time scale.

Work records and statistics are accurately maintained.

To make suitable decisions when working alone.

To maintain phlebotomy supplies ensuring work stations are fully stocked and assist in distribution of blood collection materials to wards and departments when required.

To be able to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
To communicate with other healthcare professionals in the course of your duties. To attend meetings and training course as required.
To be able to handle appropriately and with discretion patients who become unwell or distressed.

To be able to handle patients with severe illness or disability. To be able to cope with stress and pressure. To comply with health and safety regulations. To comply with Infection Control policies relating to handling sharps and infectious biological fluids.

To ensure patient confidentiality and conformance to the Data Protection act. To adhere to department Standard Operating policies.

To be aware of and adhere to Trust policies and the Staff CharterFollow strict uniform & hand hygiene policy in all areas at all times.

To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post.
To be flexible and provide cover for colleagues as experience and training allows.

To promote and maintain a professional, courteous and positive image of the Pathology Department.
