We are looking for LSAs to support pupils with ALN within the classroom, and during interventions.


Job Title:
Learning Support Assistant


Role:
To work as part of the Learning Support Team in supporting ALN pupils in mainstream classes.


Line Manager:
Sara Strange ALNCo

Work in partnership


with:

SLT; _Mr Stephen Morse & Mr Matt Forey, ALN Support Worker, Head of Faculties; Head of Key Stage; Class Teachers; Parents and LA.

Contract 35 Hours per week, worked between the hours of term time only - 36 weeks a year.


Holidays 4 weeks and 8 bank holidays pro rata (4 weeks in total)


Pay £20,319 pro rata equivalent to £15,536.22 SS1 Scale


Introduction


Under the reasonable direction of the Principal, carry out the professional duties of a Learning Support Assistant as set out in the School's contract and Education Workforce Council Professional Standards Document.

To support and maintain the high standards of pupil attainment and achievement; and monitor and support pupil progress.


Roles Specific to this Post

In relation to the individual student

  • To develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the pupil concerned.
  • To consider the pupils special needs and ensure their access to the lesson and its content through appropriate clarification, explanations, equipment and materials.
  • To meet and deliver the pupils targets; IEP; Statement as appropriate.
  • To build and maintain successful relationships with the pupil, treat them consistently, with respect and consideration.
  • To help promote independent learning. To help reinforce learning.
  • To assist the pupil with physical needs and provide intimate care.
  • To help the pupil record work in an appropriate way.
  • To develop study and organisational skills.
  • To help keep the pupil on task and to build motivation.
  • To model good practice and ensure good behaviour of the pupil. To help build the pupils' confidence and enhance selfesteem.
  • To support the review of IEP's and SEN Statements with the ALNCo; parents and Local Authority.

In relation to the Teacher

  • To have formal and informal meetings with teachers to contribute to planning lessons / activities.
  • To prepare materials and resources.
  • To prepare the pupil beforehand for a task.
  • To work on differentiated activities with identified groups.
  • To support the teacher in implementing specific teaching programmes. To supervise practical tasks.
  • To carry out structured classroom assessment/ observation and feedback outcomes. To be involved in keeping records and evaluating pupils progress.

Supervision arrangements:
Ø Complete a six-month probationary period

Ø Termly formal review of performance with Mrs Strange/Mrs Alger

Ø Regular meetings for team of LSAs, coordinated by Mrs Strange four times a term

Ø Observation of classroom support work by Mrs Strange twice yearly.
