JOB PURPOSE

  • To ensure that the site complies with Environmental Legislation and operates within the internal (Global Environmental, Health and Safety Management System) and the UK Focus Top Risks and the external ISO 14001 standard.
  • Own multiple standards across the Environmental Compliance model as defined by Manager. including Incident Investigation and Risk Assessment.
  • Provide regular coaching and support to site ReCON & Green teams.
  • Be a trained auditor able to externally audit other UK sites.
  • Own the Environmental Management aspect of the agenda including all Technical Standards and be responsible for the governance of the RECON program and me usage utilities aspects of the site eg YOY usage and targets
  • To provide expert guidance on Environment related matters and give information, advice and coaching on relevant legislation and internal EHS systems and reinforcement of site standards.
  • To be an active member of a site QCDM team and be an active participant in the daily and weekly process. This is a fundamental aspect of this role and how we operate in a Lean environment needs to be fully understood.
  • To assist the site Management Team, Duty Holders and committee's (via direct ownership) to meet the site targets of Environmental risk management and incident reduction, and drive proactive Environmental culture through effective communications and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with budget development and monitoring of Environmental related costs
  • Critical role in change management projects to ensure safe execution of all change and
  • Partner operations leaders to conduct effective investigations and develop sustainable plans to minimise non
- conformances

  • Support the wastewater treatment and anaerobic digestion plants in maintaining environmental compliance and adherence to permits.

Responsibilities:


  • Ensure Site legal compliance with respect to environmental policy through clear governance and appropriate action escalation.
  • Lead the site's Green Team to raise environmental awareness amongst staff
  • Lead the site's Resource Conservation (RECON) team to improve sustainability performance of equipment & processes
  • Clear accountability for key elements of GEHSMS and authority to ensure the Operations Team has the correct level of support.
  • Accountable for the appropriate close out of environmental nonconformances, incidents and risk mitigation in a timely manner.
  • Accountable for ensuring robust change management wrt to all aspects of environment & Sustainability
  • Accountable for timely reporting of key environmental & sustainability data both internally and externally ,to include : pollution inventory report, WRAP waste and food waste returns, F-GAS losses, UK Energy Trading Scheme, permit variation, etc
  • Act as primary POC for Site when interacting with key external stakeholders maintaining strong professional relationships with regulatory bodies (ABPR, Env. Agency etc)
  • Develop & deliver training as required for environment compliance
  • Manage the sustainability/RECON agenda by engaging with the factories to delivery sustainability improvements on gas, water and electricity use, deliver RECON program to site

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

  • Be able to manage the daytoday site Environmental agenda in the absence of EHS Manager
  • Ability to develop & provide ongoing governance to the ReCon program at site to securing environmental compliance and delivering continuous improvement on energy & water intensity
  • Ability to set and manage own agenda to achieve overall Environmental strategy of the site.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to identify trends, assessing alternatives and executing positive change effectively to support site goals & plans.
  • Strong investigation techniques, looking for root cause, including human factors contributors.
  • Facilitating own and others in action planning and monitoring completion by others ability to generate accountability in others to drive the functional agenda.

Qualifications:

  • Experience of a regulatory driven environment & knowledge of relevant legislation (Environment, Health and Safety)
  • Understanding of lean principles, loss identific
