Roles and Responsibilities
- To play the organ in a variety of settings, including Sherborne Abbey for school services. The successful applicant will be an accomplished organist with a highlevel performance qualification.
- To contribute skills and experience to the wider department and school community as appropriate.
- Organ playing for weekday and Sunday services and rehearsals throughout the week.
- Organ and piano accompaniment for concerts in school and further afield.
- Sharing piano accompaniment for pupils' concert and examination performances with the Head of Keyboard and Director of Music.
- Involvement in other aspects of the Music Department's academic, choral and instrumental programmes as per the successful applicant's experience and expertise.
- To assist with weekly theory and aural lessons.
- To be the choral librarian and to assist with other administrative tasks in the department.
- Deliver organ and piano lessons to individual pupils as required.
Residential and pastoral duties
This is a residential role, living in one of the School's boarding houses, with boarding duties forming part of the weekly working hours.
Specific duties in the House include:
- Two evening duties per week (18:0023:00) and duties on a Saturday evening, on rotation with the resident team (usually one Saturday night per month).
- Supporting house events/functions such as Christmas parties, parents' socials, new girls' tea, Commemoration Day, etc. and helping with the organisation of these events.
- Supporting the Housemistress/Housemaster (HM) and House staff team in the daily running of the house
- Attending house team meetings (normally weekly).
- Dining in the boarding house when on duty, alongside the pupils, supervising the inhouse dining (on rotation).
- Being approachable and available to pupils who might seek staff out for advice or comfort (being sure to keep the Housemistress/master (HM) informed of relevant developments).
- Being prepared to respond to emergencies, to do an extra duty or cover due to illness or absence, or respond to a pupil's needs when necessary.
- Attending pastoral INSET training as appropriate.
- Following training provided by the School, being familiar with fire drills, medicines and general security within the house.
