We now are in a position to recruit someone permanently to join our Radiology booking team at RJAH.

Full time hours per week

Band 2


To plan, schedule and co-ordinate Radiology appointments for a range of imaging modalities whilst adhering to trust policies and procedures.

Booking clerks will take part in the departmental rota in relation to the duties listed in the job description. There will also be a requirement to cover our busy reception desk to greet patients attending for their appointments.

Reception & booking office:

To greet patients on arrival in an efficient and welcoming manner.

To check carefully demographic details with patients and ensure any missing and incorrect information is supplied.


To register and check patients' demographics with accuracy, using the Radiology Management System and Patient Administration System, changing details where required.

To input radiology examination details, as requested, onto the Radiology Management System 'CRIS'.

To clearly establish the nature and status of the patient.


To explain to the patients' the process of the department, sometimes dealing with difficult situations, face to face and over the telephone.

To complete the relevant paperwork, once status has been established.

For example private patients need to sign (once completed by staff) an agreement and determination of charges form and take credit or debit card payments.

To assist with any queries patients' may have with regard to cost of imaging, billing and funding.


To deal with daily queries arising, either in person or over the telephone, from patients, other departments and members of staff, other hospital departments and G.P practices.

Directing any queries, that cannot be solved, to the relevant personnel.

To deal with enquiries regarding patients images and appointments from other departments and hospitals.


To do all of the above whilst liaising with secretaries, consultants, ward clerks, nursing staff, physiotherapists, radiographers, registrars and members of staff from various other hospitals.

Due to the location of the X-ray office there are constant interruptions with queries arising from patients and members of the general public.

To have a barrier of understanding with patients and other members of staff of all ages.

For example whilst working on reception we come into contact with patients of different languages and cultural backgrounds and also people with learning difficulties.

To book radiological examinations for patients on RTT pathways and complete appropriate examination outcome forms in a timely manner.

To highlight potential breaches across all modalities (Computer Tomography CT. MRI, Ultra-sound, x-ray) in patient pathway.
