Description

These posts are based in the Division of Medicine at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), and there will be opportunities to rotate through the medical specialties of the General Internal Medicine Outlier Team, Acute Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Elderly care, Respiratory Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrinology depending on the experience and service requirements.

The post holder will join a team of junior doctors caring for patients on our wards and will gain experience in the management of medical inpatients.

We provide close consultant support of trainees, and trainees are encouraged to gain experience in outpatient specialty care, MDTs, relevant procedural work and other clinical opportunities of interest.

This post is part of a compliant weekend on call rota (no nights/twilights/weekday on calls), with an on call frequency of 1:4 weekends, working 09:00-17:00 on week days and 08:00-17:00 in our Discharge SHO post on weekends.

Applicants should have completed Foundation training or equivalent and be eligible for a post Foundation training appointment. Non-UK applicants must provide written evidence of appropriate knowledge, training and skills.

Duties will involve the ward-based care of inpatients on the specialty wards, under the supervision of the specialty consultants. Other opportunities can be discussed at appointment.

Educational opportunities and supervision.

Clinical supervision will be provided by the relevant specialty consultants.

The full range of educational opportunities provided by a large teaching hospital trust will be available to the post-holder including a state of the art PGME and medical simulation centre (with library and computer centre).

Study leave will be provided in accordance with Trust guidelines for Clinical Fellows (15 days per annum), with some funding available to support study leave.

The Bristol Royal Infirmary provides an excellent mix of practical experience and learning opportunities. Post holders are encouraged to participate in departmental audit and quality improvement. There are many educational opportunities including weekly departmental meetings and a monthly 'grand round'. We would encourage successful applicants to attend weekly IMT teaching where possible. There is also an opportunity to contribute to the training provided at the Trust, particularly at undergraduate level.

What you'll love about working here

The CQC rated the organisation as 'Good' for services being caring and well-led.

The Trust was the first in the country to go from Requires Improvement to Outstanding in 2017, and is now the first to do this and then retain this rating.

The Trust is currently one of only seven in the country to have been rated Outstanding twice, and one of only three general acute Trusts to achieve this.

A digital exemplar

  • Being appointed as a Global Digital Exemplar means we can realise this vision by implementing digital technologies that will help us to transform the way we work and how we relate to our colleagues, patients and partner organizations.
