The therapy team within the emergency department and acute assessment units are looking for a dynamic assistant to support with assessment and discharge planning for our patients.

You will be joining a well-established team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and assistants. You will have opportunity to treat a variety of conditions from neurology, orthopaedics, medical, surgical and frailty.

We provide regular training and supervision, joint competencies across Physio and OT professions and a large supportive and friendly team.


The Great Western has recently won a bid to expand their Emergency Department so now has never been a better time to join the team.


The post holder will assist the qualified Therapists with assessment and treatment of patients in The Emergency Department and other assessment units.

The focus is on admission avoidance, early discharge planning and restoring the patients to the highest level of independence.

The post holder will complete initial assessments, liaise with family and carers, formulate and implement treatment programmes and advise and instigate discharge plans under the guidance of the qualified therapist.

  • To assist with the modernisation of the Front Door Therapy Service. To provide high quality care, timely intervention and assist with early discharge planning.
  • To be responsible for assessing the medical fitness of patients before commencing treatment and to communicate immediately with an appropriate professional any change in patients' status or other
observations about patient behaviour, ability and response to therapeutic intervention.


  • To assess case simple patients independently. Formulate treatment plans, advise on rehabilitation potential and discharge options. Complete referrals and communicate with ward coordinators your outcomes.
  • To assist the Therapists with assessment, treatment and management of patients, including stair assessments, and patients that require more than one person to treat or mobilise.
  • To supervise and progress patient exercise regimes and treatment programmes including passive mobilisation techniques and stretches
  • To prioritise the daily ward caseload, decide on case complex/case simple and communicate this information to the therapist and larger team.
