Job Purpose and Role Summary:

Break the Silence provides a range of tailored, therapeutic support options for people who have experienced childhood sexual abuse.

The Counsellor manages a caseload of referred clients, delivering a high standard of therapeutic support to clients, their partners and families, which is designed to assist clients to work through their trauma, move forward and improve their social well-being and psychological health, and which enables and supports clients to achieve an attainable standard of living, health and family life.


Delivering support to external staff in other third sector, Corporate and Statutory services to reduce the risk of vicarious trauma that they may experience as a result of their work.


Working Relationships:


Internal:
All BtS staff, Trustees and Volunteers.

External:

Clients, families of clients, Department of Work and Pensions, NHS Mental Health Team, GP'S, Social Work, Police, Housing, other NHS departments, Staff at Outreach Clinics.


Key Responsibilities to include:


Clinical Support

  • Undertake clinical assessments of potential clients to assess suitability for counselling.
  • Manage client caseload, implementing and evaluating high quality fortnightly therapeutic support on a onetoone basis, to support clients through their trauma.
  • Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and very sensitive difficulties.
  • Provide support sessions to family members where appropriate and in accordance with BtS guidelines.
  • Maintain client records in accordance with BtS guidelines including accessing computerbased records and systems to ensure records and client information systems are as up to date as possible at all times, and meet all data collection requirements.
  • Refer clients on to relevant agencies where appropriate.
  • Direct clients to complementary therapies and/or group activities provided by the BtS where deemed appropriate, and volunteering activities as and when this is an option welcomed by clients.
  • Participate in clinical audits involving members of the clinical team as appropriate to ensure the effectiveness of the service, sustained quality standards and implementation of improvements where identified.
  • Participate in and/or lead therapeutic group activities and complementary therapies to support clients, where agreed.

Clinical Supervision

  • Undertake monthly supervision with the designated Clinical Supervisor to enable reflection on all aspects of practice in order to work as effectively, safely and ethically as possible.
  • Attend regular 121 meetings with Clinical Lead Team.

Confidentiality
The postholder must

1. ensure confidentiality in all matters relating to clients, personnel issues and to information obtained during the course of employment;
2. not release such information to anyone else other than acting in an official capacity; and

3. comply with the Data Protection Act as updated, including GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
