Job Overview
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.

We're looking for a Senior Public Affairs Officer to join our BMA Cymru Wales team.

About the role


Reporting to the Head of Media and Public Affairs, the Senior Public Affairs Officer will play a vital role within the team and wider BMA through planning and leading the BMA's work to influence political and stakeholder audiences in Wales to achieve the required objectives of the organisation.


They will keep up to date with political developments, proactively identifying opportunities to engage with MSs and stakeholders in Wales to promote BMA policies.

They will produce written briefings, represent the BMA at external meetings and events, and organise the presence of the BMA at Welsh party conferences.


At a time when NHS services and the doctors that provide them are under unprecedented pressure, this is a fantastic opportunity to work within a busy team, leading on multiple high profile issues.

This is a hybrid role with a mix of working two days from our Cardiff office and at home.

To be successful as a Senior Public Affairs Officer you'll have:

  • Experience in a Public Affairs role (essential)
  • Excellent knowledge of Welsh politics, legislative procedures and an understanding of policy making
  • Proven ability of developing and delivering effective public affairs campaigns and influencing policy
  • Strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a variety of communication outputs
  • Analytical with an eye for detail
  • Good understanding of healthrelated policy and trade union functions.
