Who we are looking for:

Highly organised, adaptable, enthusiastic and friendly instructors with a professional hardworking ethos. Responsible for running the day-to-day indoor/outdoor activity sessions, and excursions at our UK Activity Centre locations.


Job purpose:


Introduce guests to a variety of indoor/outdoor activities, delivered in a safe and enjoyable environment for approximately 12 students per group.

We will train you in such activities as Bushcraft, Archery, any rope activities training will then be assessed by an external assessor.

You will also complete in-house training for many more activities broadening your own experience and developing numerous transferable skills to prepare you for term time and summer group visits.


You will also be responsible for the pastoral care of the guests, organising evening entertainment and liaising with the visiting group teachers/leaders.


You must:


  • Be passionate about working with children and young adults.
  • Be able to reside at the summer residential camp onsite accommodation provided including meals charged at £56 per week.
  • Be able to work 6 days per week on a rolling schedule.
  • Attend internal and external training courses organised by NSX.
  • Support children in nonactivity time with their needs.
  • Be friendly, energetic, enthusiastic and have the ability to relate to young people.
  • Be familiar with your responsibilities in line with the company Welfare Policy & Prevent Strategy and proactively enforce these principles while working for NSX.
  • Lead excursions, overseeing that groups depart/arrive on time, ensuring entrance times are met. Oversee the safety, security and wellbeing of the children, young people and accompanying adults, under your control at all times.
  • Take responsibility for an activity area that you are competent in and ensure that NSX guidelines are adhered to.
  • Manage the safety and wellbeing of children and young people, under your supervision at all times.
  • Be flexible and understanding with working hours of the day, to meet the demands of the job and be willing to go 'that extra mile'
  • Deliver activities, which you will be trained and assessed in.
  • Be familiar with the sitespecific NSX Health & Safety Policy Statement and Company Culture to observe safe working methods.
  • Plan appropriately for the activities that you are timetabled for.
  • Follow the systems in place for equipment management and record keeping.
  • Protect and maintain all properties belonging to the company.
  • At least once per week carry out the duties for 'Duty Instructor':
  • Patrol the building after lights out to ensure all the children are settled.
  • Secure all buildings.
  • Check in with group teachers/leaders.
  • Check communal rooms and external facilities.
  • Supervise the orderly conduct of meals.
  • Assist any person requiring medical treatment or refer to a qualified First Aider.
  • Assist in the changeovers for the arrival/departure of groups in 'whatever' capacity is required.
  • Report any accidents or nearmiss occurrences through the appropriate channels.
  • Report faults on machinery, activity equipment, fabric of the building and vehicles.
  • Assist in the checking and maintaining of activity equipment according to In-House training.
  • Assist in the moving of equipment to/from centres and the setup, and takedown, of that equipment when necessary.
  • Gain satisfactory Enhanced DBS clearance and references.
