If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our fantastic team at the Wales Air Ambulance Charity as a Cafe Team Leader at our Caffi Hems.

Job Purpose


Reporting into the Retail Manager you will take responsibility for the smooth operation of the coffee bar at our shop in Caernarfon.


Responsibilities will include the line management of Café Assistants, taking responsibility for all environmental health and health and safety requirements, hygiene and cleanliness of the café and kitchen areas, maintaining high levels of customer service.

The role includes weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • The day to day running of the café operation.
  • To support the Retail Manager in monitoring, reporting, and evaluating the performance of the cafe operation
  • The line management of the Café Assistants, including performance management, absence management and holiday allocation
  • Ensure the Café is effectively staffed, through the creation of rotas.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure quality food and supplies are ordered, as necessary
  • Food preparation, where necessary
  • Monitor performance of vendors and suppliers to ensure satisfactory service delivery
  • To support the Retail Manager in undertaking all administrative duties including cash handling, till reconciliation, banking, and rostering.
  • Adherence to WAA Health and Safety policies and procedures and the COSHH register at all times
  • To provide the highest level of customer service at all times and manage any complaints in line with the Charity's procedures.
  • Ensure effective control of stock, through stock rotation, minimizing waste and maintaining café performance records.
  • Maintain kitchen and café cleanliness to the highest level and ensure that it meets the standards set by the Environment Health department.
  • Ensure that all menus and foods are clearly labelled and display food allergen information and are stored correctly to avoid cross contamination.
  • Working with the Retail Manager, develop marketing and advertising plans, which you actively promote to develop the new business and promote to local and tourist customers.
  • To support the Retail Manager with the preparation of reports and financial management.
  • To support the Retail Manager with customer complaints ensuring that they are dealt with professionally and swiftly
  • To ensure security is adhered to at all times.
  • Take every opportunity to obtain customers feedback and build on constructive comments, to ensure continued development of menus and service.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers are supported and trained to operate the café
  • Any other duty or task as seen as consistent with the requirements of the role.

Personal Specification - Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working at a manager level in a Catering or Customer Service facing role
  • Experience of managing, developing and leading teams
  • Experience of effective stock control management and record keeping
  • Ordering products as necessary
  • Supplier management
  • Minimum of Level 2 Food Hygiene Qualification
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision
  • Committed to and enthusiastic about the aims and objectives of Wales Air Ambulance
  • Able to manage a varied workload and work to deadlines
  • Ability to deliver results and improvements to the benefit of the Charity
  • Experience of menu planning and food preparation
  • Strong experience delivering services that are focused on outcomes
  • Awareness of and compliance with the Health and Safety Act legislation and requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent team player able to provide support to volunteers and colleagues and experienced in delivering accurate work on a timely basis to ensure team success
  • Confident in the use of internet, databases, intranet, EPOS and Microsoft packages, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
