Our Grocery Service Centre, based near Liverpool, is a hub for transactional activity across multiple ABF companies within the ABF Grocery division.

Supporting some of our well-known brands such as Kingsmill, Pataks, Blue Dragon, Jordans, Ryvita and Silver Spoon, amongst others.

We deliver Shared Service activities across a wide range of disciplines including Customer Services, Consumer Care, Finance, Payroll, HR and IS.

The Grocery Service Centre (GSC), based near Bootle in Merseyside, provides Payroll services for over 40 different locations within Associated British Foods plc (ABF), via 19 distinct payrolls.


Our Payroll Advisors are responsible for processing own end to end payrolls across multiple systems, accurately and in line with legislation and process.

Both technically and ethically strong our Advisors deliver a strong customer experience.

Key Accountabilities
To process Monthly payrolls accurately and in accordance with set quality standards and timescales as determined by the business
Complete RTI submissions for the HMRC
Accurate and on time Pension Administration and Auto Enrolment Reporting for a variety of pension schemes
Payment and accurate reconciliation of voluntary and statutory deductions providing breakdowns of such
To carry out payroll master data activities such as new starters / tax codes etc
Respond to requests for payroll data ensuring it is provided in an accurate and user friendly format and meets the needs of the user
Supporting the Payroll Manager, Leads and wider team as required.
Maintain a strong control environment.

Ensure that all documentation is accurate and up to date, and that internal controls are adhered to at all times.

The Right Person
Sound payroll experience to include managing multiple remote and complex payrolls; year end processes and tax changes
Knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, SSP and SMP and RTI
Experience of using computerized time and attendance systems to populate payroll data as well as manual methods
Experience in delivery of continuous improvements within the Payroll environment
Good Excel skills
A working knowledge of ELF Time and Attendance system
A working knowledge of Success Factors payroll system
Able to build good working relationships across multiple areas, including Payroll, Group Pensions and other GSC teams.
Very well organised. Deadlines are tight across our multiple payrolls.
Take ownership. Takes ownership of Pensions data quality and seeks for ways to improve processes and outputs.

Technically sound in all Payroll processes, including current legislation and regulatory requirements as well as PAYE, National Insurance, SSP and SMP.

Willing to get stuck in.

This will be a hands-on role, with the incumbent needing to manage the need to 'get things done' with taking a step back to manage overall Pensions and Payroll compliance.
