Building Surveyor

Glasgow
We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join our business, primarily based in Glasgow.

You will be responsible for assisting in the delivery the Glasgow Schools Lifecycle Joint Venture Company (a joint venture between Galliford Try and Amey), delivering the annual plan of work with a Lifecycle fund, annual expenditure peaking at £19m, with 7 years of the concession period to run.

The estate comprises of 29 Secondary and 1 Primary school, being a mixture of new-build and refurbished properties which joined the project in 2000.


What you will be doing:


  • Working as part of a team, assist in the programming and scheduling of works to the satisfaction of both 3ED and Glasgow City Council.
  • Representing the Glasgow LCJV in day to day activities, often being in contact with the project SPV, 3ED, and Glasgow City Council.
  • Review and agree scope of repair works for building fabric and building services repairs.
  • Monitor spend and contractor invoicing.
  • Report on progress at client meetings and to all stakeholders, identifying specific issues in completion of the works.
  • Attend prestart meetings and progress meetings with client as required.
  • Carry out inspections following completion of project works, identifying any snagging issues to the contractor.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual plan of works, reviewing condition surveys and undertaking site inspections.
  • Assist with the preparation of scope of works and pricing documents for a variety of works, including carrying out measured surveys of areas.
  • Carry out regular site visits on a variety of fabric and services projects, meeting with contractors, reviewing scope of works and reporting on progress.
  • Compiling O&M information for an estate of 30 schools located throughout Glasgow, including collecting available historic information from a variety of sources and engaging consultants to produce information which is missing.
  • Reviewing O&M information provided by contractors for a variety of current building fabric and building services projects to ensure completeness of information.
  • Attend Service Provider meetings with all stakeholders.
  • Containing and optimising annual spend to ensure maximum value for money is extracted.
  • Management of budgets, forecasts and cash flow.
  • Delivery of contractual obligations under a complex PFI structure.
  • Tendering and procuring packages of work up to £1m.
  • Discharging of all conditions pertaining to Planning Consent. Responsible for ensuring the Health and Safety of operatives on project sites.

About You:


  • Minimum 3 years experience in a construction or FM environment essential.
  • Likely minimum qualified to Degree level in a building, construction or FM discipline.
  • Must possess and be able to clearly articulate sound knowledge of Building Regulations and demonstrate experience of implementation of the requirements of the regulations and monitoring of compliance.
  • Experience of operating in the PFI arena would be advantageous.
  • Commercially focussed and a good understanding of financial and business information.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable project & construction legislation and its impact on the business.
  • Subcontractor management.
  • The ability to establish good relationships with internal and external team members and stakeholders.
  • Analysing & Reporting. Able to write clearly and succinctly in a logical and structured way linked to good analysis skills to produce practical solutions, reports and advice to complex issues.
