Reportable to the Logistics & Administration Manager the Logistics Team Lead holds responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the logistic department within our Hemel Hempstead Lab.


This critical function navigates the ebb and flow of testing samples through the site from receipt to removal at the end of the test cycle.


During this journey the Logistics Team Lead is responsible for the safe movement of samples across the site, management of allocated storage spaces & ascertaining the correct end of life process.


You'll be working within a small team of two and will need to plan, prioritise and delegate work for the team, ensuring a safe working environment and that business targets can be met through a smooth and efficient logistics function.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities


Logistics Operation - Responsible for the day-to-day operation the Logistics Team Lead (LTL) will manage, delegate and partake in the decanting of samples on arrival into the agreed and appropriate locations at the Hemel Facility.

On arrival the LTL will ensure the timely processing of samples as laid out in supporting literature & 17025 management systems, ensuring the highest of quality is maintained.

The LTL will ensure communication with the Labs to create a Just in time approach to enable sample testing, once agreed the LTL will facilitate the delivery of samples to the local Labs ready for testing.


Storage Management - Due to the nature of the site and variance of samples the management of storage is a particular challenge.

The LTL is overall responsible for the management of the storage space.

Safety - They are to ensure safety is adhered to through management of Risk assessments, process & plant compliance. The LTL must ensure samples are to be left in a manner that is when unattended pose no risk.

General Management - Through weekly management meeting the LTL must communicate with the Logistics & Administration Manager any challenges faced by the storage areas, including constants, inbound large impact sample(s) etc


Waste Management - At the end of a sample life cycle the sample will be returned, collected, or disposed of.

During the latter the LTL must ensure the correct process is followed in support of the 14001 accreditation and manage the frequency of collections to minimise the impact of the waste footprint of site whilst ensure effective collection periods are maintained.


Process & general reporting - Responsible for the accurate capture of sample progress through numerous systems including PG, SAP & supporting spreadsheets.

Responsible for generating accurate KPI reports.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- You'll hold relative experience within a logistics-based position including stores and warehouse operations.- You'll be able to work autonomously and be confident in decision making.- You'll be experienced in leading a small team including the planning, delegation and prioritising of work. Great communication skills will be key to this role.- Able to remain calm under pressure and multi-task.- Exxperience of managing H&S in the workplace such as Risk Assessments.- Good experience of IT and MS Office to update internal systems.- The role will be based at our Hemel Hempstead Laboratory, however flexibility to cover at Loughborough Lab from time to time may be required.
