The opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Audio Typist within the OMFS Department to join a very dynamic team.

This role will require excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Audio typing skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are essential.


An understanding of medical terminology is desirable and previous experience of PIMS is advantageous although not essential as training will be provided together with training on the Digital Dictation system.


  • Undertake clinic typing as and when instructed by the team coordinator or relevant Medical Secretary.
  • Ensure all typing is completed in line with benchmarks and in the interests of patient care.
  • Undertake other clerical duties as delegated by the team leader/Medical Secretary as and when required.
  • Support the Medical Secretary in handling patient, GP and other general enquiries as instructed.
  • Assist in meeting administrative targets for the Clinical Administrative Team and the Trust as a whole.
  • Ensure maximum data accuracy of patient data at all times.
  • Adhere to security and data protection policies of the Trust in respect of access and use of patient data, equipment security etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Use computer, office equipment and telephones to undertake the duties of the post, including the use of PIMS for identification of patients, inpatients, outpatients and waiting list data and tracking in and out of letters and hospital case notes.
  • Support patients, GPs and consultants departments etc., by handling clerical duties as allocated by the Medical Secretary/Service Manager by providing effective and efficient service in a polite, positive and courteous manner (and in the absence of the Medical Secretary).
