Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is the lead provider for two large and exciting provider collaboratives (Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Provider Collaborative, and Reach Out) with combined commissioning income in excess of £500million per annum.


The Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Provider Collaborative brings together Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT), Birmingham Women's & Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC), and representatives from the Third Sector and Local Authorities in order to collaborate on the future design and delivery of mental health provision across Birmingham & Solihull.


Reach Out is the West Midlands provider collaborative for adult secure mental health services including people with learning disabilities or autism (LDA) bringing together a range of NHS providers and independent sector partners.


This is an exciting opportunity for an established, highly motivated individual that will join an established Finance Team, supporting these new collaborations with both NHS and non NHS organisations.


The post holder will also shape and maintain financial reporting and governance arrangements to ensure the delivery of sustainable mental health services and pathways within Birmingham and Solihull, and the wider West Midlands.


  • The Head of Commissioning Finance will lead the finance function supporting the delivery of commissioning responsibilities within BSMHFT as lead provider
  • Preparation of effective management accounting and budgetary information to support the reporting to all elements of the commissioning governance structure.
  • Lead in developing financial strategies that support the Trust's vision for these areas of healthcare
  • Plan and provide specialist financial support and expertise to support the commissioning cycle, including financial planning and budget setting, contract negotiations, monitoring expenditure, financial reporting, contract management and support to the annual Commissioning Plan.
