Mechanical Design Lead IAS

Belfast

Primary Purpose of Role
The Mechanical Design Lead for IAS UK is a leadership role spanning the Belfast, Templecombe, Thorney Island and Crossgar facilities


Responsible for the planning and co-ordination of the technical and administrative activities of the team, ensuring that staff levels and expertise meet the IAS operating plan.


The role will include the allocation of engineering resource to bids/projects/products within the domain to match operational requirements and escalate issues/concerns as appropriate.


Key responsibilities & Accountabilities
Leading and motivating >30 mechanical engineers within IAS

Support the recruitment and development of staff to meet the resourcing demands of the business and to maintain and develop the core competencies

Ensure the mechanical engineering solutions developed deliver the technical solutions to performance, schedule, cost and quality.

Escalate issues to the Head Hardware and other Heads of Function as required

To plan and provide the team facilities and tool sets to meet the business and strategic requirements

To develop and manage cost estimation models

To perform/approve the preparation of resource, cost and schedule estimates during the through life process for projects

Providing expert contribution to programmes, reviews bids and plans

Support Make/Team/Buy and Outsourcing Management/Off-shoring

Experience and Skills
Significant Engineering Experience

Demonstrable Organisational skills through engineering management

Excellent people manager and able to communicate at all levels of the organization

Strong commercial awareness underpinning technical excellence

A good problem solver showing initiative and improvisation

Able to work in a complex Engineering environment with strong governance experience

Able to work across multiple business/cultural boundaries

Able to coach and mentor employees

Able to question/challenge established processes and offer innovative alternatives

Demonstrates attention to detail, particularly in investigating problems, and a pride in producing accurate work


Education and Qualifications
BEng in a Mechanical Engineering or related Discipline (or equivalent qualification and/or experience)
