Head of Sustainability

London - Hybrid working model

A fantastic opportunity to secure a 12-18month FTC as Head of Sustainability based in London on a hybrid working model.

Reporting to the Corporate Affairs Director, you will have frequent exposure to other members of the Executive Committee including the CEO.

You will be accountable for the development and delivery of the DCC's Responsible Business Framework.

As the central, co-ordinating figure in this programme, you will work with colleagues throughout the business to implement DCC's sustainability strategy and help steer the organisation through the key initial stages of its sustainability journey.


What will you be doing?

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and management of the DCC's Responsible Business Framework and its constituent projects
  • Drive the collection and analysis of relevant environmental and social data throughout the business and across the DCC's value chain from suppliers to customers
  • Identify supporting systems and tools needed, e.g., for capturing and reporting emissions data, or monitoring compliance
  • Share knowledge and work with teams as required to raise awareness, embed sustainability in decisionmaking and ensure best practice is followed
  • Act as a catalyst for cultural change and work with others to ensure that the employee engagement potential of this agenda is fully realised, embodying our purpose, and that competence and capability is built across the organisation
  • Line management and daytoday supervision of a Sustainability Manager working with you
  • Liaison and alignment with counterparts at Capita, to whose overarching responsible business and Net Zero targets the DCC's sustainability efforts also contribute

What are we looking for?

  • Highly organised, with a successful track record of delivering a portfolio of concurrent projects and balancing multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • A demonstrable track record of embedding sustainability principles, policies, compliance and reporting requirements; experience of developing and delivering against sustainability frameworks; familiarity with sustainability reporting and independent validation/audit
  • Accustomed to converting a wide range of data to measurable targets, and the associated project planning to achieve them
  • A confident and credible leader, comfortable advising senior figures; robust and willing to challenge appropriately
  • Corporately savvy, strategically aware; accustomed to operating in a complex and dynamic environment and/or a regulated business, working alongside functions such as Commercial, Risk, Finance, HR
  • Excellent relationshipbuilding, influencing and collaboration skills
