Job summary:

Would you like to be at the heart of the MOD's approach to the regulation and assurance of small Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS)? Are you a problem solver with strong communication skills who is keen to effect change?

RPAS technology is developing apace and is at the forefront of Defence plans for the future.

How to deliver this exciting new capability safely yet quickly is one of the key challenges for the Military Aviation Authority over the next 5 years.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our organisation as the lead assurance officer for small (<25kg) RPAS.

This important role will offer you the exciting opportunity to be a member of a diverse and multi-skilled team of c.

190 personnel.

The MAA is a stimulating, forward thinking and forward leaning team, committed to improving and assuring the provision of safe capability to people across UK Defence.

The DSA is established by a Charter issued by the Secretary of State for Defence empowering it for its role as a Defence Regulator and Investigator.

It contributes to Defence capability, reputation and effectiveness through the setting and enforcement of Defence Regulations for Health, Safety & Environmental Protection (HS&EP) and supports the Ministry of Defence by providing independent, evidence-based, HS&EP assurance.

Part of the DSA, Military Aviation Authority (MAA) acts as the single regulatory authority responsible for regulating all aspects of Air Safety across Defence under the DSA banner and has full oversight of all Defence aviation activity.

Through independent audit and continuous surveillance of military aviation, the MAA aims to provide the Secretary of State for Defence (SOS), through Director General DSA (DG DSA), the necessary assurance that appropriate standards of Air safety are maintained in delivering operational capability.

The MAA Operating Assurance Group regulates, on behalf of DMAA, the operation of all Air Systems registered as UK Military Aircraft (Crewed and uncrewed), covering all activity within the Defence Air Environment and provides the main delivery arm of the MAA's Assurance activity.

The key function of the Operating Assurance Group is to collect, process and disseminate intelligence concerning Risk within and performance of the Regulated Community (RC) to construct a Rich Picture.

Appropriate communication of the Rich Picture and coordination of Group activity enables Risk Based Assurance of the RC.

Operating and Engineering Divisions focus upon relevant areas of activity conducted by ADH and ADH-facing organisations and Contractor Organisations regulated under the MAA Approval schemes.

The role will be based at MoD Abbey Wood North but is likely to operate in a hybrid approach. Travel to and from the office will not be reimbursed.
