An exciting opportunity has arisen for two full time Specialist Mental Capacity Act Practitioners to join the Mental Health Law team.

The post-holder will work as a key member of NSFT with a primary focus / core portfolio of Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Liberty Protection Safeguards.


Working closely with the MCA Lead, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality MCA/DoLs service providing professional advice, support and education to staff, patients and service users: using their specialist advice to enable the recognition, prioritisation and appropriate response to support the requirements for compliance with the Mental Capacity Act.

One practitioner will be based in Suffolk, and one in Norfolk.

Each post holder will work across NSFT sites in their county in order to provide hands on support to clinical staff by providing expert support, information, training and guidance on issues relating to the MCA.

The successful applicants will be dynamic and self motivated, with a passion for safeguarding vulnerable individuals.


Whilst training and professional support will be available, applicants require an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the MCA with experience of working within a complex health or social care organisation.


The successful applicants will play an important part in helping to shape the new MCA compliance team and ensuring NSFT meets its statutory obligations.

In order to meet legislative requirements, the Specialist MCA Practitioner will develop and embed systems and processes to support staff with capacity assessments, best interest meetings and other MCA requirements.


The post holder will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Trust wide policies and procedures which relate to the use of the MCA.

The post holder will work autonomously, with mínimal supervision. They will provide advice on how legislation should be interpreted and implemented within the organisation.

They will collaborate with health and social care colleagues in the region to ensure effective implementation of MCA legislation within NSFT.


The Post holder will influence, lead and motivate staff at all levels within the clinical environment to deliver high quality care.
