Vetting Researcher - Manchester

Salary:

12.81 Per Hour

Full Time (35 hours per week)

Role Purpose:


To assist the functions of the Force Vetting Unit (FVU) by collating, researching, assessing, evaluating and disseminating information and intelligence to assist the Force Vetting Officer in their decision making.


This will involve the interrogation and assessment of national and force specific police databases, including sources outside of police systems in order to determine whether there are any professional and private aspects of concern relating to an individual'slife (financial affairs, friendships and associations and employment history).

The identification of risk based on the assessment and evaluation of the information collated. The role requires practical insight into possible approaches for the mitigation of risk.


To act as first point of contact to internal and external applicants, managers and sponsors in order to provide advice and guidance on vetting issues.


Responsibilities:


  • To scan and evaluate all available intelligence and information from open and closed sources and to research internal and external databases in order to produce accurate research reports.
  • Using collated information, to produce accurate and detailed research reports, incorporating all available intelligence, together with reasons for interrogation, in order that sound judgements can be made in relation to vetting outcomes.
  • To present reports both verbally and in writing to a range of levels of seniority, adapting approaches and language as required.
  • Liaise with police officers and staff responsible for criminal investigations to ensure all lines of enquiry in support of vetting research are probed and undertaken to the highest standard.
  • Liaise with applicants with tact and sensitivity to ensure all matters of vetting research are completed in a thorough and compassionate manner.
  • To work closely with the Anti-Corruption Unit, assisting in the identification of persons who may be suspected of criminal activity which could lead to corruption or bring reputational risk to Greater Manchester Police.
  • To liaise with internal Units, other police forces and law enforcement agencies and relevant partners and statutory agencies, to ensure the appropriate sharing of information and intelligence, in line with all relevant legislation and policy. Where necessarygather further information from other police forces or agencies where access has previously been denied on the systems due to the intelligence rating.
  • Ensure checks are conducted on all databases providing summary reports for the information of the Vetting Officers including recommendations to support informed decision making.
