We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Deputy Nurse Manager.

Summary of Responsibilities


The Deputy Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager in professional and administrative duties, is responsible for care/nursing matters in the Home when the Nurse Manager is not present and deputises in the overall management of the home as required.

Approximatelyhalf the role will cover management duties and the other half will be general nursing duties.


Leadership

  • Supporting the Nurse Manager in leading the care team and managing the day to day running of the home.
  • To be a positive, visible role model; promoting our personcentred philosophy of care to staff, the wider community and visiting professionals to maintain a consistently high standard of clinical and social care.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager in writing, reviewing, and updating clinical policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Support the financial effectiveness of the home, ensuring the home operates within budget through effective use of resources and identify areas to improve efficiency.

Care Management

The Deputy Manager will:
- take the lead in the planning, provision, and evaluation of individualised care.
- assist and guide the care team to provide a safe, caring, stimulating and homely environment for the residents.
- ensure legal, regulatory, and best practice guidelines are followed.
- liaise with general practitioners and other external health and care professionals to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to care.
- ensure that the nursing and personal care needs of residents are met whilst promoting residents' independence, including participation with social activities and support with daily living tasks.
- continually assess our residents' needs to enhance their quality of life. To consider each resident as an individual and treat them with the dignity and respect which their age and experience in life deserves.


Staff Management

The Deputy Manager will:
- assist with the recruitment and selection of new employees.
- oversee the induction training of all new employees and participate in the training development of the team.
- assist with the assessment and supervision of team members.
- ensure all staff complete mandatory training and training specific to the home.
- support the Nurse Manager in arranging staff cover e.g., sickness and annual leave cover or for escorting sisters to appointments. The Deputy Manager must be willing to take occasional night and bank holiday shifts if required to ensure adequate cover.
- comply with and promote all policies and procedures.
- support the Nurse Manager with any grievance or disciplinary procedures, as required.

  • Participate in meetings and deputise for the Nurse Manager at meetings as required.

Administrative Duties
- identify, source, and order any medical, stores or equipment requirements.
- assist in the safe custody of residents' property and money.
- assist with the arrangements to transfer and settle new residents in the home.

  • Arrange additional services for the benefit of the residents e.g., chiropodist, physiotherapist, hairdresser, patient animal therapy, art therapy and music therapy.
  • Liaise with the chef regarding dietary requirements of individuals and in ordering food and nonfood stores.

Communication
- ensure accurate and timely handovers
- maintain good communications with residents and, where possible, to involve them in the individual resident's care plan.

  • Always maintain confidentiality in line with relevant data protection legislation.
- ensure accurate record keeping and security of information through passwords, secure storage, and appropriate sharing of information (both paper-based and electronic systems).
