Description

Keen Amateur Gardener ready to make it their Career.
Hadden near Kelso in Scottish Borders

Self-employed Gardener for House and Flower Farm

One day a week for starters (or two half days) - with certain opportunity for more days / hours

Hrly rate:

£12.50/hr

We're looking for someone to come and sort out our chaotic flower borders around the house and farm - for starters.

You need to be able to identify the delphiniums and lupins from the peonies and irises, and especially the nettles, thistles and couch grass, at a glance.

And be ready to get your hands dirty and flex those muscles with physical work.

There are the lawns and hedges too but this role is not for a groundskeeper - we currently have that covered - though you may be required to help out with those elements.

We specifically need someone who already has a knowledge of what's a flower - seedling or dormant perennial emerging from the soil - which flower it is and what's safe to pull out and remove around it.

If you're handy with DIY design/construction (or you'll readily have a go at it), even better (we have a workshop and other staff to help - and the business owner involved in this part of the business has a head full of plans and ideas).

Our focus immediately is to get things whipped into shape and let the flowers and plants do their flamboyant thing - as well as defend them from those pesky rabbits and hares and the wind

If you have an interest in floristry / floral arranging, then that's a bonus too as we also have a field full of amazing peonies (many varieties and colours) that we grow for cut flowers and sell directly to the public.

With a long-term plan to move into growing other floral perennials to sell online as postal and subscription flowers, so there certainly is opportunity for this job to grow into a full-time role.

So, if you're a fan of Floret on Instagram and you'd love to be involved in a similar business and think you have the aptitude, skill-set or just a can-do, have-a-go, energetic attitude - and a passion for flowers - then please get in touch.

This is a physical, outdoor job - we are a farm - where you will be working rain, wind or heatwave, so you must be able and inclined for that physicality.

But also we have a lovely team working here already who can have a laugh and support one-another when the rain and cold is getting a bit much - and we'll readily welcome another like-minded team member to join us.

We believe strongly in gender equality in the workplace.

This role would certainly suit someone returning to work or scheduling their hours around the school run etc too.
