Description

As a trainee you would be trained to be able to competently perform all routine lung function and sleep physiological measurements, as required, without supervision and with a considerable degree of personal responsibility.

The post requires further development of competency in non-routine and complex measurements undertaken by the department.


It is expected that the post-holder will continue to develop skills through continuing education and practical skills to increase level of autonomy and expertise.


  • Expertly perform a range of procedures in accordance with established policies and professional codes of practice ensuring high standards and optimal results
  • Lead on specific procedures which carry a recognised clinical risk to test performance.
  • Competently and safely perform the tests with the authority not to proceed if findings suggest the test is inappropriate or likely to be detrimental to the patient.
  • Advise more junior staff on the procedures when required
  • Plan and prioritise own duties, clinics and training activities to maximise service benefit.
  • Participate in education, clinical supervision and management of junior staff members.
  • Be responsible for discussing any findings of concern with the referring clinician or Lead Physiologist.
