An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 6 month secondment for an Operational Flow Assistant Clerk.


The post holder will be assisting the operational bed manager and Head of patient flow ensure the safe and effective utilisation of hospital capacity and patient flow.

This will involve liaising with Ysbyty Cwm Cynon however the post holder will be based in Prince Charles Hospital.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The role will include scheduled and unscheduled admissions, internal and external transfers of care.

This will involve the booking of Non -Emergency Patient Transport, along with liaising with external providers such as British Red Cross and Age Connect.


The post holder will be required to liaise with numerous members of staff and wards to ensure there is effective ,efficient patient flow, gather important data for the production of reports and to enable the operational bed manager to make decisions on patient movement.


Will assist the operational bed manager by developing and implementing patient flow update plans, and keep the operational bed manager up to date with any issues that arise.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 6 months due to - meet the needs of the service.

The post holder will:


  • Collect, collate and report a wide range of capacity and patient flow information and report to the clinical site manager.


Identify and record planned/elective admissions on a daily basis, liaising with all relevant staff to plan the allocation of beds to these patients.

Liaise with staff on multiple wards /units to establish the bed count and planned bed availability.

Support staff with data gathering relating to the patient journey relating to the e-Whiteboards and WPAS

Produce regular reports and updates for the operational bed manager on availability of beds in hospital

Regularly liaise with other defined hospitals in the health board to collect information on bed availability.

Support ward staff to maximise timely patient discharge.


Will be required to access and make judgements on a range of operational solutions using critical evaluation approach to solve problems using a variety of solutions.


Engage actively with Emergency Department staff to reduce breaches of the emergency Department and escalate concerns to the operational bed manager.

Take requests for ambulance transport of transfers arranging and booking where necessary.

Have knowledge of and engage with audit activities as required.
