Description

The practice
The International Policy Practice is a newly established area of work within Global Counsel. We advise global businesses and investors on how to protect and enhance their interests within the multilateral system.

Recent thematic focus areas include artificial intelligence, data sovereignty, sanctions and development finance.

Across these areas, we advise business on how debates, policy and regulations evolve, the opportunities and risks presented and how they can be influenced or mitigated.

We concentrate on policy areas where international rules are nascent or have yet to be set.

We focus on global businesses and investors who require a medium-term perspective.

We work closely with a range of other GC practices, in particular Trade, Technology, Media and Telecomms, Financial Services and Global Macro.

We aim to offer a distinctive view on these issues and to deliver public thought leadership as well as private advice.

The role

We want to expand the practice over the next two years, both in terms of our core team and the client base.

This role will be split between business development, growing our relationships with international institutions and working on existing client accounts.

The types of accounts you should expect to work include global investors, tech firms, financial services and media.

You will develop deep sectoral expertise in one or more of those verticals, depending on your interests and the growth of the Practice.

You will work on engaging new clients, delivering pitches, curating events and creating content for the GC website. On existing client accounts, you will contribute to regular bespoke analysis and briefings.

You will work to the Practice Director for International Policy, but also have the opportunity to work closely with other Practice Directors and the senior leadership of the firm.

Skills profile

We are looking for someone with a blend of commercial and policy experience, who understands and can seize opportunities in the intersections between the two.

You might have worked in the corporate affairs division of an international organisation, or in a national government role where your responsibilities included liaison with or analysis of international business.

Equally, you might have worked in the policy division of a large corporate or a trade association.

You are likely to have between - 6 years of professional experience, gained in the type of organisation described above, or similar.
