Main function


To undertake a full teaching load, including the development, delivery and evaluation of modules on the Cardiff University Medical Education Genetic and Genomic Counselling, which will include modules related to research methods, ethical issues and dissertation.

To supervise students and to carry out administrative duties within the work area as required. To pursue excellence in teaching and to inspire others to do the same.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Design and deliver teaching programmes for courses and contribute to module development as part of a module team
  • Grade 7: independently contribute to module and course development and lead modules_
  • Inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students.
  • Supervise the work of students. including the supervision of Undergraduate and Master's students and the cosupervision of PGR's
  • Grade 7: Acts as a PGR progress review panel member as required_
  • Supply pastoral care through both acting as a Personal Tutor and providing support and guidance to students, building and establishing trust

Scholarship

  • Contribute to scholarship in the area of work through participation in conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship
  • Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work
  • Contribute to scholarship through interdisciplinary working with individuals and teams within, and external to, the wider university community
  • Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking assessments and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work

Other

  • To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School's profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile
  • To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance in the role of Lecturer
  • To mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development
  • To participate in School administration and activities to promote the School and its work to the wider University and the outside world
  • Any other duties not included above, but consistent with the role.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education
- - _Grade 7: Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or experience_


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level
- _Significant experience at Grade 7_

- _Grade 7: Growing National reputation within academic field_

  • 6. Ability to design, deliver and continuously develop modules across the School's teaching programmes.
    Pastoral, Communication and Team Working
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex and conceptual ideas clearly and confidently to others using high level skills and a range of media
  • 8. The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances, and to act as a personal tutor.

Other

  • Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and teamworking within work
    Desirable Criteria
  • Relevant professional qualification(s) e.g. MSc Genetic Counselling.
  • 12. Evidence of being active within genetic counselling (clinical, research, education, policy etc.)
  • 13. Evidence of interest in ethical issues in genetic counselling
  • 14. Proven ability to work without close supervision
  • 15. Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community.
  • 16. Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School.
  • 17. A willingness to take responsibility for academically related administration.
