The Role


The Estates and Facilities team has responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective development and management of the University academic and residential estate.

The estate is seen as a strategic enabler in support of the University Vision and Strategy.


We are looking for a Health and Safety Officer to join our Estates and Facilities Health and Safety Team, reporting to the Health and Safety Manager.


To be successful in this role you will support in the development of health and safety policy, systems, and procedures across all the teams in Estates and Facilities.

This role also includes making sure we achieve compliance in C onstruction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations.


We are currently operating with a hybrid model of some campus based and home working and are committed to providing a flexible working environment.

Interviews will be held on 11 September 2023.

Key Accountabilities Ensure that relevant Health and Safety Policies, legislation and appropriate codes of practice are effectively applied.

Remain fully informed on relevant legislative and policy issues and vigilant to future regulatory and legislative changes that relate to health and safety matters Provide health and safety guidance and support for all departments within Estates and Facilities Identify, collate, and provide relevant information to CDM duty holders Aid in the development, implementation and improvement of the Estates & Facilities H&S processes and procedures to provide a robust system of work Monitor health and safety systems within Estates and Facilities.

Recommend and implement changes to management systems and policies to make improvements Contribute to the development and review of E&F wide policies and procedures Work as part of the Health and Safety Team, identifying areas of improvement and development needs, managing the change process, and supporting and encouraging colleagues in establishing a proactive, customer focused service Support in the development and implementation of a 3-year mandatory training programme for all Estates & Facilities teams Support the Health and Safety Manager in the education, implementation and delivery of soft landings to the Estates teams, taking the lead role in relation to the Improvements and Maintenance functions Work as part of the Health and Safety Team to ensure advice and support is always available to colleagues in Estates & Facilities.

Proactively identifying, developing, and delivering health and safety training across Estates and Facilities Support in the investigation of incidents and near misses Undertake health & safety inspections and audits Liaising with the Occupational Health and Safety Service and external regulatory bodies to ensure consistency and compliance with university policy and statutory legislation Reinforce social and sustainable practices across all work elements, particularly within the management of frameworks

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proven track record in stakeholder relationships with evidence of negotiating and influencing
Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation and a passion to promote a safe working culture
Demonstrable experience of working to deadlines to achieve objectives
Evidence of determination to achieve success when presented with challenges

Qualifications:

Educated to A level or equivalent standard or demonstrable work experience
NEBOSH General Certificate (desirable)
