Electrical Development Engineer:

Our client is one of the UKs leading Automotive Engineering companies and has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer to join the motor Development & Validation team.


Main Purpose of Role:


Key Activities:


  • Provide detailed input to the design and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure the end product meets all the requirements and make recommendations for product design changes.
  • Create and maintain Design Verification Plans for new products.
  • Create internal test procedures and external test requests at the system, subsystem and component levels.
  • Analyse test data and create test reports.
  • Support product compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Track and solve technical issues and work with the design team to implement corrective actions.
  • Assess motor performance and correlate to simulation results.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering teams to ensure products work as a whole.
  • Review and define requirements for new products.

Education/Qualifications Required:


  • A degree in Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics Engineering or similar.
  • Suitable extensive experience in a development and validation function could be considered in lieu of degree

Experience Required:


  • 16 years' experience in a development or test engineering role
  • Practical experience working on vehicles and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience with requirements management, DVP+R, FMEA and issue resolution procedures is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of accelerated life testing methods is desirable.

Skills & Attributes Required:


  • A detailed understanding of electric motors and inverters including electromagnetic principles and sensor feedback.
  • A detailed understanding of electrical systems, preferably automotive.
  • Practical electrical skills for prototyping, fault diagnosis and repair of electrical systems.
  • A systems Vmodel approach to development and validation.
  • Skilled at interpreting test results and referencing analysis predictions.
  • Familiarity with communication standards such as CAN/LIN/Flexray would be useful.
  • An understanding of basic mechanical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a multifunction team.
  • High attention to detail and a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Highly organised and ability to work to deadlines
