We are recruiting for a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner at Greater Manchester Mental Health (Early Intervention Team, North Manchester).


Rated Good in their most recent CQC report, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, (GMMH) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for Bolton, Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan.

The Trust also provides a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services for patients from Greater Manchester and beyond.

Main duties of the job


The post holder will be a member of the multidisciplinary team, working both independently and alongside others to provide primary mental health care to patients.

As a social worker, you'll assist people in finding answers to their difficulties. This could involve supporting people to live independently or shielding vulnerable individuals from injury or abuse.

Social workers improve the lives of individuals and families by assisting them in doing so; you will work with clients, their families, and others, including:
the elderly, young offenders, families at risk of breaking down, and children at risk of abuse or neglect.

Job description

  • To utilise highly developed interpersonal skills including specific skills to facilitate effective communication when there are barriers to understanding e.g. sensory or cognitive impairment or in a hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive situation.
  • To establish and maintain robust communication networks with clients, carers, and other health care workers and numerous external agencies.
  • To establish and maintain good working relationships with GPs, GP commissioners and relevant consortia.
  • To promote awareness of the role of EIT within local service area/team, GP practices and the wider community.
  • Maintain appropriate, uptodate, written and electronic records and activity data in accordance with Professional and Trust standards
  • Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to those needs
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide adequate support.

Person Specification

  • Have a professional qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy and have a current registration with the appropriate registration body (Nursing and Midwifery Council, Social Work England or Health and Care Professions Council).
  • Have the suitable experience in a community mental health setting or have at least 2 years of post qualifying experience within the mental health field.
  • Be able to draw upon and reflect on personal experiences when working with complex cases.
  • Have a full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes; trust wide travel expected.
