Hours per week-37.5 hours per week

Perm/Fixed Term-Permanent

Salary-£35,392 - £42,618 per annum

The post holder will work as a supportive member of the Medicine Directorate Governance Team, to support and deliver a range of quality governance activities at Directorate level and within individual service groups, to ensure compliance with the Trusts governance and risk framework.

This includes working closely with the Medicine Governance Coordinator Lead to promote and support the wider governance and patient safety agenda.

As a governance support officer, the post holder will have a pivotal role in supporting the Governance Coordinator lead in the promotion and improvement of governance activities within the Directorate, including the management of ongoing incidents, complaints, supporting CQC preparation, promotion of Patient Safety Strategy activities and ensuring learning from incidents takes place and is evidenced.

The post holder will also include an administrative element to support the management of Directorate governance meetings, production of comprehensive directorate governance reports and meetings to support the incident management process, including serious incident investigations and activities as part of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).


Assist the Directorate Governance Coordinator Lead for Medicine in implementing and supporting the quality governance framework, fostering effective communication with services and frontline staff regarding various governance activities.


Monitor and provide reports on the status of incidents, ensuring timely resolution and facilitating effective learning from incidents in collaboration with the Governance Coordinator Lead for Medicine.


Aid the Governance Coordinator Lead for Medicine in reviewing incidents recorded on the Incident Management Database (DATIX), identifying recurring or adverse trends/themes, and escalating as necessary.

Support the Medicine Directorate Governance Coordinator with the review of incidents entered on the Incident Management Database (DATIX), identifying any recurrent or adverse trends/themes and escalating as appropriate

Monitor and report on the open and overdue status of incidents, supporting incident management and working with the Governance Coordinator to ensure timely closure and effective learning from incidents

Work will be managed rather than supervised


Supporting the Governance Coordinator and service leads by collating evidence for action plans that have been implemented following the outcome of external and internal visits, i.e.

CQC inspection, mock inspection or ward assurance visits.


Work with the Medicine Governance coordinator to ensure that information is gathered in preparation for any serious incident (SI) /patient safety incident (PSII) investigation table top review meeting.

This includes sending invitations, taking minutes and sharing information post meeting.

Promote and implement a patient safety culture, sharing information to wards and updating ward areas with Governance linked resources. Participating in ward/unit based meetings to share learning and provide updates for governance related activities

Gather and collate data and information for monthly reports and presentations.

Support the Directorate Governance Lead in the maintenance of an effective directorate risk register

Demonstrate competent IT skills and knowledge of relevant clinical systems

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships and effective team working with clinical leads and managers to ensure increased understanding/compliance with all governance standards and the management of risk
