This position requires a minimum of 4 staff to assist with an individual who is autistic and has a learning disability and also presents with
extreme violent challenging behaviour.
In this role you will be supporting people who are autistic, have a learning disability and violent challenging behaviour.
Purpose
The main purpose of your job is to support people to be as involved as possible in every part of their day to day lives, so that they can be full and active members of society.
Enable the people you support to influence their services and the way they are supported.
Help Include 'In' Autism to provide a high quality service.
Key Responsibilities

1. Keep the needs of the people you are supporting at the centre of your attention at all times.
This means supporting people to:
_
Be heard and responded to, using communication they understand.
Take part in enjoyable, satisfying and purposeful activities.
Make sense of their environments and access their communities.
Learn new skills.
Maintain and improve their health and well-being.
Receive help with their personal care if they need this.
Assist with their behaviour, if they need this.
Have person centred plans and guidelines that enhance their lives.
Take account of people's age, gender, ethnic origin, religious/cultural background, abilities/disabilities and sexual/personal needs.

2 Enable the people you support to influence their services and the way they are supported
This means:
_
Listening to what people tell you about what is important to them.
Using this information to contribute to developing person-centred guidelines and plans, involving families, friends and other professionals if this is appropriate.
Enabling people to take part in the running of their own homes, if you work in a home environment.
Helping people to speak up for themselves and/or speaking up for them.
Supporting people to keep in contact with family and friends and to develop their social networks.

Help Include 'In' Autism to provide a high quality service by:
_
Keeping all records of your work up to date and accurate.
Completing IIA's induction and skills development programme and attending courses and doing eLearning as required for your role.
Taking an active part in supervision and taking responsibility for setting, agreeing and monitoring your own objectives.
Attending and contributing to meetings as required.
Behaving respectfully all the time to the people you support, their families/friends, your colleagues, and neighbours and members of the public.
Taking a co-ordinating role during shifts and helping new colleagues to get to know the people they are supporting and how to work in the service.
Keeping a safe, healthy and supportive environment for the people you support, yourself, your colleagues and anyone else coming into contact with Include 'In' Autism staff and colleagues.
You may also be expected to carry out other duties that are in line with the nature and grade of the role and this will include working evenings and weekends.
