We are looking for an enthusiastic, productive mathematical modeler to advance a research agenda on health inequalities in England.

The post-holder will join a team analysising EHR data examining socioeconomic and ethnic inequalities in respiratory virus transmission.

The project focuses on how these infections exert pressures on GPs and if those are evenly distributed across practices and patient groups.

The role of vaccination in mitigating these pressures will be a major focus.


The post-holder will be responsible for developing and validating prediction models using data drawn from health records to estimate the effect of patient and practice level predictors.

They will validate models against data from longitudinal surveys, and develop a system to help the NHS to monitor and manage pressures in primary care.

They will work with Professor Michael Marks (interim PI) alongside a team at LSHTM, QMUL, Bristol and Oxford Universities.


The post-holder will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic and relevant experience in data management and analysis of electronic health record data using statistical software programs.

The post is full-time, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 15 April 2027. The post is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research and available from 01 June 2024.
